Getting through the first date after a break up might feel a little bit like running a marathon. Pay attention to your date. There's nothing worse for a man than going out with someone who has her eyes on everyone in the room but him. Make him feel as though he is the room even if you aren't feeling a "love connection."
You agreed to go on a date with him. Make sure you don't make him feel as though you've left him behind.
Mind your manners. You may be bitter about your ex and the need to re-enter the dating game. The more you allow that bitterness to show the less fun you or your date are going to have.
It's best for everyone involved if you bring your best party face on the date with you and leave all other excess baggage elsewhere so you can both concentrate on having fun and getting to know each other.
Don't go overboard. It's a little easy to let your thoughts run away with you as you face a situation that is uncomfortable or frightening. The more unsure of yourself and the situation you become the greater the odds are that you'll make a mistake or two along the way. Don't give in to fear.
Allow reason to rule the date. You just might find that once you let your guard down you'll have a great time and be ready for the next date when the time comes. It's a much better way to spend an evening, regardless, than sitting at home pining away over the one that got away.
